Must go for kids clothes shopping — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, April 2025
Good place to buy baby clothes. — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, February 2025
The area selling kids clothing had lots of choices too. — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, November 2024
Nine of the 34 are written in Japanese or Chinese. A reviewer writing in Chinese calls it a paradise for mothers. A Japanese reviewer says the designs are ones you do not find in Japan and that the clothes make welcome gifts for a friend’s new baby. Another Japanese reviewer bought ear warmers for a child on a freezing day and enjoyed the haggling.
The trade-off: thirty-four reviews are 2.5% of the sample. Most visitors to Namdaemun Market write about food and souvenirs, and the ones who write about children’s clothing are mostly the ones who came for it.
Where Reviewers Found It
Reviewers describe two kinds of place: a street and the buildings. Two mention a children’s clothing street or a children’s market. Four place children’s clothing inside the buildings.
Worth going for kids clothing — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, December 2025
A reviewer in 2024 notes that the street-level shops are only the front of several small malls, each specializing in one kind of goods, and that one of them is given over to children’s wear. A Japanese reviewer recommends the shops inside the buildings for children’s clothes and finds more stylish things there. Another describes a fashion building on the side nearer the Shinsegae department store, with a basement floor of children’s clothing visited on every trip.
A reviewer in 2019 gives a number, without saying whether it is a gate or a building:
On #6 you can find many kids clothing stores. — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, August 2019
The trade-off: no review gives an address, and that number comes from 2019. The market’s information guides, the staff in red, are who reviewers ask for the right section.
When to Go: Reviews Disagree
The most detailed account of hours is from 2019, and it describes a night market for wholesale buyers.
If your looking for kids clothes you can come after 10pm to 5am. — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, August 2019
The key to getting a discount is buy more than one piece. — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, August 2019
That reviewer bought nine children’s sleep sacks to give to friends and gives the arithmetic for a child’s hat: 15,000 won for one, 9,000 won each for more than three. The same review says there are fewer people at night, that getting the deals means buying in quantity, and to bring cash.
Two other reviews point the other way.
Suggest to go at day time, shops will close at night. — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, June 2019
We went on weekend so the 2nd floor on the main market building was closed. — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, April 2026
That second reviewer, in April 2026, walked through the children’s clothes on a weekend and found few options.
The trade-off: the night hours are one reviewer’s account from 2019 and the weekend closure is one visit in 2026. We did not verify current hours. A visitor who is coming for children’s clothing should check before building a day around it.
What Disappointed Reviewers
Six of the 34 reviews have a complaint. Some of them are less about the children’s clothing than about everything else on sale.
Not recommended for young tourists without children — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 1 star, December 2025
Good for shopping of children clothings but not adult. — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 1 star, June 2019
On price, one reviewer in 2024 is measured:
still a good place to get variety of clothes and accessories for children — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, June 2024
The sentence before that one says the prices are not really wholesale. A Japanese reviewer in 2026 describes a vendor of children’s clothing who said looking was fine and then, when nothing was bought, made a remark about Japanese customers, assuming it would not be understood. And a family in January 2020 took the children to the toy street as a treat:
there were NO TOYS! — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 2 stars, January 2020
The trade-off: the same market that thirteen reviewers recommend for children’s clothing is described by others as having little for anyone else. Whether it is worth the trip depends on what you came to buy.
Methodology
Figures come from the SeoulFoodTour research corpus. This article uses a sample of 1,376 rated reviews of Namdaemun Market from Google Maps and TripAdvisor, collected without filtering by rating.
What was counted. A search for children, babies, kids and family, in every language in the sample, matched 63 reviews. Each was read in full. Thirty-four mention children’s or baby clothing, baby goods or the toy street. Thirteen recommend the children’s clothing and six have a complaint; the rest only list it among what the market sells.
Counts are floors. A reviewer who bought children’s clothes and wrote only about the hotteok is not here.
Quotations. Every quotation is from a review written in English and is reproduced exactly as it appears in the original record, spelling included. Reviews in other languages are counted and described in our words, never quoted.
What this article does not do. It does not verify opening hours, which floors or buildings are open, or prices today. Prices and hours in the reviews carry the year the review was written.
