The trade-off: these are visitors’ reports over seven years, not a timetable. We did not check current opening hours, and the reviews themselves do not agree on the hour.

Methodology

Figures come from the SeoulFoodTour research corpus: 1,376 rated reviews of Namdaemun Market collected without filtering by rating, 1,076 from Google Maps and 300 from TripAdvisor, dated June 2019 to September 2026, with 1,139 of them from 2024 or later. Every percentage is taken from these 1,376: 205 reviews of one to three stars and 1,171 of four and five.
A second pass aimed at low ratings added 246 reviews. They are never counted: a sample collected to be negative would pull every proportion down.
What was read. All 205 low reviews were read in full, in the language they were written in, and sorted by hand. So were the high reviews about counterfeits, hours, getting lost, payment, bargaining and prices for outsiders. Reviews that phrase these things in a way our search did not catch are not counted, so the numbers in the practical table are floors.
Counterfeits. The comparison between low and high reviews uses one search applied to both groups, with two false matches removed. The total of 51 adds four reviews found by reading that the search missed.
Quotations. Every quotation is from a review written in English and is reproduced exactly as it appears in the original record, spelling included. Reviews in other languages are counted and described in our words.
What this article does not do. It states no prices, and it does not give current opening hours, closing days or payment rules. Those are current facts and a review corpus is not a source for them.
