Seoul Markets With Kids: What 43 Reviews Say

Few visitors write about bringing children to a market, and the ones who do are consistent about which market. We read every review of Gwangjang Market, Namdaemun Market and Mangwon Market that mentions children, babies, strollers or family, and kept the 43 that describe a visit.

Mangwon Market is the only one of the three where no reviewer warns parents. Namdaemun Market is the one with the most warnings, and Gwangjang Market sits between them.
The trade-off: these are small numbers, about one review in a hundred at each market. They show which way the reviewers who have children lean, not how most families fare.

Mangwon Market: The One Families Recommend

Five reviewers of Mangwon Market say it suits children or the whole family. Three of the five write in Korean. One says it is good to come with a child. One calls it ideal for families and mentions the public parking nearby. One says the market is a good environment for shopping with a stroller or a wheelchair. A fourth Korean reviewer describes a comfortable weekday visit with a child after parking at the market’s own lot.
An affordable traditional market suitable for the whole family to eat and shopping. — Google Maps review of Mangwon Market, 4 stars, July 2025
A reviewer writing in Chinese adds a detail parents will use: a stall run by a friendly older man sells rice crackers that small children can eat.
Two cautions come from the same reviews. A family writing in Chinese left early with the children and found that most stalls open after 11 a.m., so they waited in a café. And the Korean reviewer who recommends weekdays says that on weekends there are too many people to look around properly.
The trade-off: most of this evidence comes from local families, who arrive by car and know the place. Only a handful of visitors from abroad mention children at Mangwon Market.

Namdaemun Market: Where Reviewers Warn

Six reviewers of Namdaemun Market warn parents, and four of them say plainly that it is not a place for small children.
Not recommend with big family and small kids with stroller, but still can try. — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, December 2025
Little Kids will not enjoy this place. — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, April 2025
A Japanese reviewer explains why: much of Namdaemun Market is wholesale, the goods are piled into narrow spaces, and it is not suited to sightseeing with a family. The same reviewer calls it a difficult area for a stroller and fine for a group of adults.
keep the little ones close because there is a lot of hustle/bustle taking place — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 5 stars, November 2019
One reviewer notes that the ground near the children’s clothing street is uneven:
is quite uneven with gravel so a little hard to walk — Google Maps review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, April 2026
One parent has a working method. The children enjoy the excitement, the stroller keeps them contained, and the visit lasts about an hour.
My kids also seem to like all of the excitement but I usually put them in the stroller here — TripAdvisor review of Namdaemun Market, 4 stars, June 2026
Two reviews show the range of what can happen. In a two-star review from April 2026, a four-year-old tripped in front of a shop and knocked over an ornament, and the parent says an employee swore at the family even after they apologized. In a review written in Dutch, a one-year-old waved at a police officer and was given a box of children’s plasters, and the reviewer notes that the market’s information staff can point families to a public toilet.
The trade-off: Namdaemun Market is also where families go on purpose, for children’s clothing. Thirty-four reviews mention it. That is a shopping trip, and it is a different thing from walking the food alleys with a toddler.

Gwangjang Market: Split

Three reviewers say Gwangjang Market works with children and four warn.
Second time visiting here. Kids friendly. — Google Maps review of Gwangjang Market, 5 stars, August 2026
If you travel with kids, there are loads of things to see, eat, and shop for. — Google Maps review of Gwangjang Market, 5 stars, June 2026
A reviewer writing in Chinese praises one of the raw beef restaurants as very friendly to children: the child who would not eat raw food was not pushed into a minimum order.
The warnings are about the crowd and the heat.
make sure to keep them close so they dont get caught up in the hustle — Google Maps review of Gwangjang Market, 5 stars, September 2025
It was too advanced for my North American family in the humidity. — Google Maps review of Gwangjang Market, 3 stars, August 2025
Families who sat down did better than families who did not. One waited about ten minutes in 2019 for a bench long enough for everyone. Another bought food to take away and regrets it:
much better to sit — Google Maps review of Gwangjang Market, 5 stars, October 2025
The trade-off: seating at the stalls of Gwangjang Market is on shared benches, and a family needs several places together. One of the reviewers who calls it kid friendly came for brunch.

Strollers

Six reviews mention a stroller. Two reviewers of Gwangjang Market, both writing in Chinese in 2025, call it inconvenient. One of them adds that the women at the stalls were very forward and touched the child without asking. Two reviewers of Namdaemun Market call a stroller difficult or advise against it. One parent at Namdaemun Market uses the stroller deliberately. And one reviewer of Mangwon Market says the market is easy with a stroller or a wheelchair.
The trade-off: no review measures an aisle or names a step-free entrance. What the reviews give is direction: of the three markets, Mangwon Market is the one where a stroller is described as easy.

Methodology

Figures come from the SeoulFoodTour research corpus. This article uses three samples of rated reviews from Google Maps and TripAdvisor, each collected without filtering by rating: 1,458 reviews of Gwangjang Market, 1,376 of Namdaemun Market and 1,089 of Mangwon Market.
What was counted. A search for children, babies, strollers, family, sons and daughters, in every language in the samples, matched 127 reviews. Each was read in full. Most use “family” for souvenirs to take home or for a family-run stall, and those are not counted. Forty-three describe a visit with children or family, or say whether the market suits them: 14, 14 and 15.
Counts are floors. Parents who visited and did not mention their children are not here. The percentages in the first row are shares of each market’s sample; the other rows are counts, because they are too small to be rates.
Quotations. Every quotation is from a review written in English and is reproduced exactly as it appears in the original record, spelling included. Reviews in other languages are counted and described in our words, never quoted.
What this article does not do. It does not verify parking, opening times, lifts or step-free routes today. A review records what one family found on one day.
